KEVIN COAN BIO
Kevin Coan, has been involved in the broadcasting industry since 45-RPM records and tape cartridges were the order of the day. Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio. the “Rock N Roll Capital”, Kevin heard some great radio in the sixties and early seventies and was on the air professionally at the age of 15. His 30-year career has included Morning Shows, On-Air and Program Management positions in the Cleveland, Akron, Raleigh, North Carolina, Austin, Texas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Logan, Utah and Hilton Head, South Carolina markets.”As a performer and a manager, I have always been involved in the art and science of the medium. It all comes down to knowing your audience. In media there are three of them… the consumer, the advertiser and ownership. What comes out of the speaker has to be a common ground between those three forces”. In addition to staff radio positions, Kevin has been involved in the Voice Talent aspect of the advertising business with commercials and radio and television station imaging. He has served as staff announcer on the nationwide “American Music Classics” format and covered Presidential retreats for Mutual Radio. Kevin studied Business at Akron University while also working full time in radio. His first network television appearance was as a freshman in high school at Gilmour Academy. He appeared on the game show “Truth or Consequences”, which was taped in Cleveland and won fifty dollars for throwing a tomato at a giant picture of Bob Barker. Backstage while signing the release, Kevin heard Bob say “that darn kid got tomato all over my suit”. Oops. Regarding radio and new media, Kevin said, “I have always been fascinated by radio and even more so now that the Internet has made it possible to hear programming from all over the world. Digital technology has made the nuts and bolts of audio production so simple, and with broadband, the transport of audio files is a reality.”……Kevin’s Philosophy…”No matter what, it’s all image. Building a great radio station involves knowing the lifestyle and tastes of your audience. Then you have to present a package that pulls at their heartstrings, tickles their hot buttons and triggers a memory. It has to be packaged and made memorable. I believe much of the same can be said for Podcasting and Internet Radio. And with the Internet there is an infinite depth of visuals available to build your case. This is an exciting time to be involved with technology”.Since returning to Cleveland in 1997, Kevin Coan has worked behind the scenes at WOIO/WUAB-TV, on the air at Soft Rock 102.1 WDOK, Smooth Jazz 107.3 The Wave, in the News Department of WNIR-FM, wrote and narrated presentations for Realty One and has operated his own audio production company, “Kevin Coan Media” in addition to The News and Podcast Network.
